UAB „Žemaitijos keliai“, having started reconstruction of the bridge across river Minija, did not select usually applied solution to look for other ways as bypass road, making the way longer by some tens of kilometres. The company selected untraditional option: within four weeks, near the bridge being reconstructed, it assembled a metal bridge with single entrance and single lane, 61 m long, with 3,67 m wide driving part. So, the drivers feel no extra way due to reconstruction. If there was no prefabricated bridge, drivers would have to take a bypass road, making their trip 40 km longer. Prefabricated metal ACROW bridge can be installed in any place, because it is not complicated to bring it by standard trucks. It needs no special equipment or tools for installation. Removable bridge can be quickly assembled and erected. It features high versatility, meets needs of various lengths and weights. If needed, it can be strengthened, prolonged or shortened with the help of extra constructional elements. These bridges are projected and manufactured observing ISO9000, AASHTO and AISC requirements and standards.
UAB „Žemaitijos keliai“ offers new innovative technologies for gravel road improvement replacing asphalt concrete with bitumen emulsion and crushed granite stone mixture. The company started applying this technology in co-operation with Swedish company „Nynas“. The first experimental 5 km long section of this new coating was installed near Plateliai lake in the regional road Žemaičių Kalvarija-Gegrėnai-Medsėdis. UAB „Žemaitijos keliai“ has installed several kilometres of coating made of cold asphalt concrete mixtures in UK, Northampton town environs. This new method is like an intermediate option between gravel road and asphalt road. In order to make this thin elastic coating, bitumen emulsion made of soft bitumen is used. This coating is much more elastic than asphalt concrete, so it doesn’t crack in autumn and spring when gravel road becomes deformed. The new coating protects gravel roads from dusting, reduces road maintenance costs. The coating is easy to repair: the occurring defects can be easily fixed by a single person. This technology is widely applied in the Northern Europe: it is still new in Lithuania and Latvia.
